| Boolean Search
When a Boolean query is used in developing a search expression, it can be very useful to specify exactly what information you want. There are two Boolean operators that work best on this site to search for combinations of words or phrases; they are "AND" and "OR". Enter Boolean operators in uppercase (e.g., AND, OR).
Boolean "AND" Example
The search query is written as "Surgery AND Abdomen."
When using Boolean "AND" in this search query, results retrieved will contain both "surgery and abdomen" information. The results will not include those documents containing only "surgery" or only "abdomen" information.
Boolean "OR" Example
The search query is written as "Eye OR Ear."
When using Boolean "OR" in this search query, results retrieved will contain either "eye" information or "ear" information or "eye and ear" information together. Such a search will not merely retrieve exclusive documents for "eye" or "ear" only.
Please note that the common Boolean Operators, "NOT" and the "NESTING" technique are not available as search features.
Wildcards
Wildcards can be used either before or after a series of letters or numbers. The "*" indicates missing letters/numbers. You may also use the "*" in the middle of a word, if you are unsure of the spelling.
Type "*plasty" in the grey search bar, click on the "Search" button (or press ENTER) and your search results will include documents containing words such as "cardiomyoplasty", "dynamic cardiomyoplasty", and "blepharoplasty."
Type "corn*" in the grey search bar and click on the "Search" button or press ENTER. Your search results will include a Policy Bulletin such as "Corneal Topography."
Be advised that if you type in a 3 digit code with a wildcard such as "372*", you will receive a listing of all policy bulletins that contain "372" as part of the document.
